Plenary session theme and topics:

  1. Pathophysiology Plenary Session
    • Topic should focus on the updates on the pathophysiology of DM
    • Objectives:
      1. Discuss the biochemical/ molecular basis of the development of diabetes
      2. Discuss the latest pathophysiologic mechanism of DM
      3. Discuss the impact of the current pathophysiologic mechanism to the management of DM
  2. Non pharmacologic management Plenary Session
    • Topic should focus on the updates on the non-pharmacologic management of DM (nutrition, exercise, psychosocial intervention, smoking cessation, avoidance of alcohol, other lifestyle modification)
    • Objectives:
      1. Discuss the mechanisms on how non-pharmacologic management prevent and control DM and its complications
      2. Discuss the importance of non-pharmacologic management in the prevention and control of DM and its complications
      3. Discuss the landmark and latest trials on the prevention of DM utilizing non-pharmacologic strategies
      4. Discuss the latest guidelines on the different non-pharmacologic management of DM
  3. Pharmacologic management Plenary Session
    • Topic should focus on the updates on the pharmacologic management of DM (oral meds, injectables, insulin, new delivery systems)
    • Objectives:
      1. Discuss the mechanism of action/ pharmacokinetics/ pharmacodynamics of the latest pharmacologic agents and delivery systems in relation to the pathophysiology of DM and/or its complications
      2. Discuss the latest guidelines/ treatment algorithm on the use of different pharmacologic agents of DM
  4. Complications and Co-morbidities Plenary Session
    • Topic should focus on the updates on the management and prevention of complications and co-morbid conditions of DM
    • Objectives:
      1. Discuss the biochemical/ molecular basis of the development of diabetes complications and co-morbidities
      2. Discuss the landmark and latest trials on the reduction of DM complications
      3. Discuss the latest strategies/agents that can reduce morbidity and mortality due to DM complications
